GYMNASTICS FOR ALL IN CEARÁ: HISTORY OF THE MODALITY IN THE STATE

Abstract

This work systematized the history of Gymnastics For All (GPT) in Ceará. For this research, descriptive, was
initially conducted a documentary research (GIL, 2002), and later, the Oral History method (Meihy e Holanda,
2007). The only systematic and public initiative found about GPT in the state is the extension project of the
Institute of Physical Education and Sports (IEFES) from the Federal University of Ceará (UFC), Gymnarteiros,
started in 2011. Even this group had no detailed historical systematization of their formation and intervention, in
this way, at the end of this research we create a database that will serve as a starting point for future studies
about Gymmnastics For All in Ceará and also, about the group (Gymnarteiros). We concluded that, the
enlargement and questioning the history of GPT at Ceará, occurred in 2011 with the project of extension of the Federal University of Ceará- GYMNARTEIROS creation’s. This major initiative is responsible for the dissemination and practical promotion of the sport in state, also contributing to participations of the state in
national and international sporting scene in the context of research related to the theme.
