Abstract
At the beginning, adapted sport was thought and practiced as a form of rehabilitation for people
with disabilities; nowadays it presents different objectives, as recreation, rehabilitation,
education and high performance. In this context, this study aimed to review Brazilian studies
focused on swimming teaching methods for visually impaired children. Therefore, the main
objective has been to compile the results achieved in this field, allowing the recognition of its
status and evolution, serving as a basis for professionals and researchers in the field. Key words
and their variations (teaching, learning, swimming, visual impairment and child) have been used
in the electronic databases: Unicamp Libraries System (SBU), Google Scholar, Scientific
Electronic Library Online (SCIELO), and SCOPUS, and it has been considered articles, books,
monographs, dissertations and theses published from june 2006 to june 2016. The results
showed literary scarcity regarding the subject in theme, showing the need to carry out more
research related to the topic. Three studies were identified that were adequate in this research.
These have been showed effectiveness in the teaching-learning of swimming for visually
impaired children, attributing improvements to the participating children in several aspects, such
as: physical and psychomotor aspects, emotional and cognitive, and intellectual and socioaffective.
