Resumen

Durante muchos años, se han realizado estudios para mejorar el rendimiento de los atletas
en las competiciones y, por tanto, el uso de suplementos ha ido aumentando. Pero el
problema es que los suplementos dietéticos no siempre están libres de sustancias no
deseadas, a menudo contaminados con sustancias prohibidas por las organizaciones
deportivas. El objetivo de esta revisión es explicar el peligro de la presencia de sustancias
ilegales en los complementos alimenticios para los practicantes de ejercicio recreativo y
deportistas de élite. Una revisión de la literatura se hizo sobre bases de datos bibliográficas
como Medline, Scopus y Pubmed, revistas y Organizaciones y websites de las Agencias
Gubernamentales. Se destacaron en esta revisión las leyes vigentes en la materia, las
estrategias implementadas para guiar los atletas y las personas involucradas en el deporte,
las sustancias ilegales más comunes en los complementos alimenticios y los tipos de
suplementos que están más contaminados. Varios estudios se realizaron para verificar la
presencia de contaminantes, y los resultados fueron alarmantes, aumentando las
preocupaciones de los atletas, entrenadores y equipos sobre el uso de suplementos
dietéticos. Desafortunadamente, las leyes y el control de este problema no es lo
suficientemente grave como para poner fin a la situación. Por lo tanto, las organizaciones
deportivas y los comités deben informar a los atletas acerca de los suplementos más seguro
de usar, y sería importante para crear nuevas leyes para controlar la producción.
