Resumen
Este artículo examina la geografía de la innovación en el estado de São Paulo. Su objetivo es investigar si factores territoriales, como el gasto en I + D, los desbordes de conocimiento y la aglomeración urbana, afectan la innovación a nivel regional. Para ello, se utilizaron datos regionalizados de la Encuesta Industrial de Innovación Tecnológica (PINTEC / IBGE) sobre innovación a nivel de las microrregiones del estado de São Paulo y se adoptó un modelo basado en la función de producción de conocimiento aplicado a las regiones. Los resultados muestran que los esfuerzos locales de innovación y los desbordamientos de conocimiento son factores territoriales que inciden en la innovación en las regiones. Además, las regiones de mayor densidad urbana y con una estructura productiva local más diversificada muestran un mayor crecimiento en la tasa de innovación. El trabajo presenta nueva evidencia empírica sobre el papel de los factores de ubicación en el fomento de la innovación en Brasil, mediante el uso de medidas directas de insumos innovadores, como el gasto en I + D y los resultados de la innovación medidos por empresas innovadoras.
