Journal History

PARC was founded in 2006 by the professors Gabriela Celani and Leandro Medrano, as a scientific journal of the Department of Architecture and Construction at the School of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Urban Design of the University of Campinas. It was managed by a permanent Editorial Committee composed by the founding editors and the department head. An Editorial Board acted as reviewers. Guest editors were invited for special thematic number. The journal published until 2014 one volume with two issues per year, in 2015 the periodicity was increased to 4 issues per year.

From 2006 to 2014 two distinct moments can be observed: (i) an implementation period and (ii) a consolidation period. In the first period (2006-2011) the publication was intermittent not reaching the desired semester periodicity and the journal was available in the form of site developed in HTML. This was a scientific editing learning period. However, resulted in a significant classification of Brazilian Journals realized by CAPES Agency.  In the second period (2012-2014) the semiannual periodicity of publishing was met and all published issues were thematic. The journal was transferred to the OPENCONF System. In 2014, a group of Chief Editors with a two-year term substituted the Editorial Committee. The current chief editors were: Prof. Leandro Medrano (USP), Prof. Doris C.C.K. Kowaltowski (Unicamp), Prof. Lucila Chebel Labaki (Unicamp) and Prof. Regina C. Ruschel (Unicamp).

In its first eight years, PARC presented the following indicators. PARC published a total of 13 issues, summing 81 papers being: 72 academic papers (89%), 3 papers of young researchers (4%), 5 from authors identified as new generation (6%) and one interview (1%). As for language: 73% of the papers are in Portuguese and 27% in foreign language - 10% in Spanish and 17% in English. As authorship, considering the first authors, 23% of the authors are associated with UNICAMP and 77% are from other institutions. The reviewers, initially restricted to the Editorial Board, made up 65% of Brazilians and 35% of foreigners (including Portuguese, Argentinian and Spanish), has been expanded and enlarged through Scientific Committees assembled by guest editors in each thematic issue. It can be said reviewers are from all regions of Brazil including the main educational and research institutions.

In 2015 Prof. Lucila Chebel Labaki was no longer chief editor of the journal and was replaced by Prof. Daniel de Carvalho Moreira, also from FEC-UNICAMP.

The year of 2015 sets the beginning of strategic actions willing to rise the journal's qualification. PARC was transferred to the Open Journal System and included at the Electronic Journals gateway from UNICAMP. The frequency of publication was intensified to quarterly periodicity with a minimum of 5 papers per issue. The journal will continue being multilingual, however the title, abstract and keywords are bilingual: Portuguese or Spanish and English. Grants are being studied for bilingual publication. It is also being pursued the expansion and the indexation of the journal, as well as its internationalization.
