PARC 2025 Dossier

PARC partners with the Fourth Generation Knowledge Districts Congress (FGKD24) to compose its Dossier 2025 section.

After the FGKD24 congress, articles selected by the congress's scientific committee will be invited to submit expanded versions of their work to the PARC 2025 Dossier. Submitted articles must be written in English, have a maximum of 30% similarity to those published in the event proceedings, and will be evaluated by PARC referees. Submissions must be made between 2024/05/21 and 2024/07/31

Industrial districts greatly influenced the growth and development of Latin American cities throughout the 20th century, but with results that were not always positive from an environmental point of view. In recent decades, innovation districts have emerged as new city areas with the potential to contribute more sustainably to social and economic development.

In the Brazilian case and Latin America, these districts, generally located on the urban fringes, are limited to second and third-generation examples, which seek to promote interaction between academia and industry and, more recently, with the government. These typologies follow the so-called triple helix innovation model. However, with the evolution towards the quintuple helix innovation model, society and the environment become inseparable spheres for the success of innovation districts, called the fourth generation of knowledge territories. There are, however, significant challenges to the success of these districts, such as their financing, as well as risks in their implementation, such as the destruction of pre-existing areas, gentrification and disconnection from other areas of the city. The PARC 2025 Dossier will deepen the discussion and understanding of this issue.

The deadline for submitting articles to FGKD24 is 2024/02/02
