Abstract:

This text brings a proposal for criticism on the positions that support the assertion that empirical research must begin from the elaboration of hypotheses that arise from theories and that will eventually be confirmed through confrontation with reality. The author claims that this method is not justifiable from a logical or a practical point of view. It lacks some qualities, especially creativity and demonstration capacity, when compared to inductive empirical methods, which prioritize the progressive elaboration of medium reach theoretical hypotheses, based on fresh etnographic data.
