Abstract

In this article, I compare the three versions of the prose poem “L’Horloge”, in the aim to better understand the corrections Charles Baudelaire made between 1857 and 1862. I show that they express an increasing irony and a rejection of lyrism, a change we can explain by the evolution of the Spleen de Paris project, and by the conception of writing and poetry the “last Baudelaire” had.
