Abstract

Le Parnasse Satyrique (1623), an anthology of satirical and obscene texts, represents the landmark of a double censorship of laughter and pornography. The controversial presence of the name of the poet Théophile de Viau (1590-1626), condemned to be burned together with his work in a public square, makes this publication also a landmark for the use of the author's name in its penal sense. This study intends to reflect on these tensions generated by this publication and presents the translated selection of ten poems from the book.
