Resumo

Introdução: Bebidas energéticas são bebidas não alcoólicas contendo alto teor de cafeína e adição de outras substâncias. Este conjunto de substâncias é comercializado com a prerrogativa de aumentar os níveis de energia e concentração, diminuição da fadiga e melhora do desempenho acadêmico e esportivo. Objetivo: Avaliar o uso de bebidas energéticas por estudantes universitários do curso de Odontologia, considerando o possível uso indiscriminado, bem como os efeitos secundários que podem ocasionar. Método: A pesquisa foi realizada por meio de questionário específico que incluiu questões sobre o consumo de bebidas energéticas. Resultados: Do total de participantes 70,6% afirmaram já ter consumido bebidas energéticas, sendo 71,6% do gênero feminino e 28,3% masculino. Conclusão: Foi observado principalmente o consumo de modo recreativo e para melhora no desempenho acadêmico. Quanto aos efeitos adversos mais frequentes foi relatado coração acelerado, insônia, dor de cabeça e até mesmo depressão após o consumo.
