Abstract
This article presents a conceptual and analytical discussion about performative processes involved in the construction and naturalization of what we will call “forrozeiro masculinity”. Our objective is to understand the role of certain identitary values involved in the performative circulation of meanings about masculinity in language games of the cultural forró-electronic practice. The study is supported by the theoretical-methodological contributions of the New Pragmatics/Cultural Pragmatics (RAJAGOPALAN; MARTINS FERREIRA, 2006; RAJAGOPALAN, 2010, 2016; ALENCA; MARTINS FERREIRA, 2012; FABRÍCIO; PINTO, 2013; ALENCAR, 2014; PINTO, 2014) and in studies on gender identities (BUTLER, 1997, 2000, 2003) with a focus on masculinities (CONNELL, 1995; CONNELL; MESSERSCHMIDT, 2013; ALBUQUERQUE, 2000, 2003, 2010). The analytical framework includes the categories assessment, self-image explicitation (PINTO, 2014) and synonymous rhetoric (FIORIN, 2014). The results indicate that forrozeiro masculinity is constituted in the performativity to exist and reproduce itself and it does what it reproduces by dialoguing with a northeastern tradition of meanings and values about "the regional man", but which, at the same time, establishes other equally hegemonic models within the scope of masculinities. We conclude by emphasizing the need to thematize and problematize naturalized meanings that, eventually, may be at the base of gender inequalities, exclusions, stigmas and female objectification.
