Abstract

This research aimed for analyzing the understanding of the Physical Education program by
teachers from São Paulo State Education Department in comparison to the conception of
one of its authors. In this regard, a qualitative method was adopted, containing two sets of
ten discursive questions each. The first set was given to one of the authors of the program,
while the other one to teachers from São Paulo State Education Department in order to
raise data and then compare the teachers´ answer to the author´s. The research took place
in five of São Paulo Education Department schools around the south part of the city
attended by ten teachers. Teachers showed difficulties while coping with the program,
mainly to what is concerned to the several contents which they admit to not having knowledge enough. Almost all of them did not comprehend the main elements of the
concept of the program and also resisted to what is stated as content though, at the same
time, they regard the value and importance of the program. Nonetheless, they reported the
huge resistance to the diversity of work proposal in the program by the students, alleging
this fact as the main difficulty for their lack of interest as well as its precarious structure
and teaching material.
