Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify the absolute and relative upper limb (UL) peak
power (PP) in amateur rugby players. In early training season were evaluated eighteen
rugby players (state university level) separeted into 2 groups, men (n = 11) and women (n
= 7). The players realized anthropometric measurements and 1 repetition maximum tests
(1RM) in bench press exercise (guided bar). After 48 hours of rest, it was performed
excentric power tests for UL through accelerometer (Myotest® ). The intensity was 30%, 40%, 50% and 60% of 1RM, with 3 minutes of passive rest between sets. There were no significant differences (p <0.05) in absolute and relative PP among men and women.
However, in relation to women, men produced higher power values (p <0.05) in all
intensities tested. The absolute and relative PP were not significantly different (p<0.05)
between all intensities in each group. Therefore, further studies are needed to verify the
effectiveness of training using the PP as work zone.
