Abstract
The review of the book "School Physical Education: the social representations", published in 2001, discusses
the School Physical Education with an emphasis in high school, written by the author Claudio Luis
Alvarenga Barbosa, also author of "Physical Education: from alienation to release". The author traces the
historical aspects of physical education, highlighting its relationship with the Greek education. The
appropriation of the social representations theory in the work is critical target by reviewers, since the
references obtained by them for change in social representations on the context in which we live and work
presents a social representation of physical education mode Overall, as if there was only one for the entire
universe of physical education. The review also presents the interpretation of teachers' speeches and high
school students on the Physical Education.
