Abstract

The study aims to compare the jump height of elderly women in the squat (SJ) and countermovement jump (CMJ). Twenty-eight inactive older women volunteered to participate in this study (mean age 68,7±5,9 yrs). Each subject was instructed in how to perform the jump techniques and rested 5 min between the different jump performances. The mean of the three jump trials was selected for statistical analysis. The vertical ground reaction force (GRF) during SJ and CMJ was measured using a force platform. The numerical integration of the vertical GRF in time was used to calculate the impulse and, thus, to estimate the jump height. The t test for paired samples showed that the jump height in CMJ was significantly higher than in the SJ.
