Abstract
At a cross-linguistic level, referential selection (that is, the decision to use one or another linguistic form to mention a referent in the discourse) is correlated, among other factors, with referential distance (that is, the number of clauses between a mention of a referent and the prior mention of said referent; see Givón 1983: 13). This paper analyzes and describes the correlation between referential distance and referential strategies (that is, the forms selected to mention a referent) within a Hñöhñö written corpus, by means of two statistical methods: Kruskal-Wallis’s test (Kruskal & Wallis 1952) and correspondence analysis (Benzécri 1973). The procedures used are based on the methods used in Kibrik (2011).
