Abstract
This work analyzes the different types of interrogative speech acts that have been observed in Pima Bajo, a language of the Tepiman branch of the Uto-Aztecan family spoken in northwestern Mexico. The analysis focuses on the different types of interrogative constructions, their particularities and differences, taking as a reference what is proposed by authors who have analyzed this functional domain from a typological perspective. The study considers three types of interrogative constructions: (i) the argument or content interrogatives, (ii) the polar interrogatives and (iii) the tag questions. The article describes the full list of the interrogative pronouns in Pima Bajo, their phonological variations, the occurrence of complex interrogatives, some observations concerning the prosody in some interrogative constructions and also provides a comparative overview of the interrogatives in this language in comparison with these elements in other Uto-Aztecan languages in order to discussing the possible diachronic origins of them.
