Robert Owen em New Lanark: Umlaboratório do futuro?

Resumo

Este artigo examina a proposta pedagógica implementada por Robert Owen em New Lanark, a partir das concepções antropológicas e da filosofia da história a ela subjacentes, tendo como fonte os textos onde o famoso "socialista utópico" trata dos meios e formas de transição para uma sociedade racional e cooperativa. Tal análise tem por objetivo mostrar que o entrelaçamento entre uma visão antropológica otimista e um diagnóstico sombrio do processo civilizatório constitui a base para a ênfase na necessidade de uma "revolução das mentes", a ser operada por um programa educativo integral iniciado nos primeiríssimos anos de vida. Nesta perspectiva, a autora identifica na educação o principal instrumento - alternativo à luta social- para a construção da utopia oweniana.

Abstract:

This article looks into a pedagogic proposal implemented by Robert Owen in New Lanark, from the under1ying anthropologic conceptions to philosophy of history taking as a source texts in which the famous "utopic socialist" treats the means and patterns of transition to a rational and cooperative society. The goal of this analysis is to show that the intertwining of an optimistic anthropologic view with a gloomy diagnosis of the civilization process makes up the basis to the emphasis in the necessity of a "minds revolution", to be performed by an integrated educational program started in the very ear1y years of life. Through this perspective , the author identifies in education the main instrument- alternative to the social struggle - to the construction of the Owenian utopia.
