Abstract
This text seeks to present a concrete manifestation of Freirean thought in the East Timorese country. This thought formed the basis for the literacy processes carried out in the first half of the 1970s, serving as a basis for awareness and subsequent national liberation for the people of Timor-Leste. Methodologically, this text is the result of bibliographic reviews on Freirean Pedagogy, especially in relation to Generative Themes, as well as on Popular Education in Timor-Leste. Also, excerpts from an interview with Professor Dr. Antero Benedito da Silva were used in the present work.
