The Old Neighborhood Representation of riverside 21 Century: a study of the Influence of Discourse on the Desire to Practice the Historic Center of Natal-RN

Abstract

By the time we place the preservation of historical heritage as a problem to be studied and discussed, we must evaluate the sense of loss of a daily life that was left behind and replaced, though not without trauma to the social and historical permanence of the city. Having the city as an object of perception of its inhabitants, we broach the subjective of desire as an inductor of the urban practices as well as social representation as an inductor of desire. Therefore, to conduct a study on the perception of the city, it is necessary to understand the society that makes it up, which is as important as the built environment. In this sense, the discourse can have different perceptions and appropriations, whether positive or negative, of the city in its various nuances. Thus, the objective is to analyze the discourse that works up the Ribeira neighbourhood, in Natal-RN, produced in the twenty-first century by print media, represented here by newspapers: Tribuna do Norte, Diário de Natal and Novo Jornal, in order to verify if the representation of the neighborhood stated in the texts affects the desire to pratice the space. Another objective is to investigate the discourse on Ribeira in order to check if it fits the neighborhood in the perception of damned places.
