Latin America´s Urban Sprawl

Abstract

One of the identifying characteristics of the areas of Latin American expansion are interstitial urbanization processes, the product of discontinuous growth, which did not occur evenly, spatially or temporally, but rather in a fragmented manner, advancing around campaign, channels, rural roads, routes or traces of the FFCC, industries, which over time contributed to organize the urbanization. In this line, the current peripheries, those areas of "between-city", which extend between cities, towns and rural areas, result from multiple individual actions, from exceptions to regulations, from displacements and overlaps. In this uncertain framework, we seek to contribute to the knowledge of the urban growth of cities, revising perspectives of analysis that unfold the studies from history, from geography, social studies and the objects that they build, since it is about giving an account of the material transformations of the territory but also of the actors and factors that were behind.
