The Sixth Edition of Jovem Arte Contemporânea: From Incentive to Experimental Poetics to the Inconsistency of Journalistic Criticism

Abstract

The text is about the encouragement given by the administration of Walter Zanini to the experimental and conceptualist performances, at the sixth edition of the Young Contemporary Art (1972), promoted by the Museum of Contemporary Art, University of São Paulo. The jury waiver selection and prerequisites, and the creative freedom granted to participants, on the one hand confirmed the actuality of thought and the courage of that ruler, on the other hand, heterogeneity, ephemerality and unusual character of the proposals would find difficulty of reception by part of the retrograde and agonizing journalistic criticism, that would protest against the institution and the event organizers.
