The art of exposing chairs: Ways to exhibit them, use them and to look at works of art

Abstract

This paper discusses how exhibition spaces relate to seats (especially chairs), and vice versa, considering seats as though they were exhibition objects (art, design, decoration),  places to rest, to surveil and especially  as guides of certain points of view to look at works of art. From an accidental walk through several museums and through works of art with chairs, in front of them or seated on them, we intend to think over how, when we use them, we establish places to look, to be looked and to position ourselves on the writing of art history and criticism.
