Presentation: Ancient art in present times

Abstract

The present dossier has received texts from researchers dedicated to investigating different historical traditions. From a retrospective perspective, the published texts were concerned with debating critical traditions addressing different themes such as artistic production in the Nasassian period, the survivals of classical antiquity in the seventies, the images of Latin American nations’ independence leaders, the appropriation of image of classic works by contemporary artists, among others. It should be noted that many texts were dedicated to the critical production of modernist artists and thinkers such as Mario de Andrade, Murilo Mendes, Oswald de Andrade, Sérgio Buarque de Holanda and Lina Bo Bardi.
