Manifest essay - mode of existence: indigenous presence in Porto Alegre - so that the sky does not collapse

Abstract

The presence of indigenous peoples in the metropolitan region of Porto Alegre and their struggles to maintain the ancestral traditions of their ways of existence, contributed to the “sky of Porto Alegre” not falling. These peoples have been experiencing great tensions arising from disputes over their territories due to real estate speculation and the mineral heritage of coal, which commanded them at the center of events. Such situations tend to further aggravate environmental degradation and the quality of life in the region. The narrator and the narration, as Walter Benjamim triggered, could, in certain historical moments, open the gaps so that the perspective of the defeated ones of yore could emerge and retell their stories. In this sense, the meeting of two researchers with the Mbya-Guarani indigenous peoples and the literary production of indigenous people such as Davi Kopenawa and Ailton Krenak make up the creation of this narrative.
