Abstract
The exhibit “Contar o Tempo” (Telling Time), which took place at the University of São Paulo “Centro Maria Antonia” gathered works of art that present different forms and shapes as well as a diversity of materialities of time perception and apperception. It started from the notion that time does not flow continuously, homogeneously and measurably. Nor can temporal experiences be seen as unique unidirectional and uniform because social, political, psychological and intellectual dimensions interfere in what one understands as “time”. The exhibition has also tried to show the role of the public university system – its search for the production and circulation of knowledge which attests the role and commitment of this institution to the visual arts as well as to the society. In this way, the reflection that has been developed here presents the general features of this experience and of the works on display.
