Poner el cuerpo: connecting Argentina and Chile through collective and feminist interventions in the public space

Abstract

This paper investigates artistic interventions that take place in the public space proposed by women's collectives and gender and sexual dissidences in Argentina and Chile. Based on the interventions, we will reflect on the way in which feminism crosses the practice of some groups that are in the context of “non-central” countries, and allow the apprehension of an important phenomenon, which today is characterized as “Feminist Spring” or “Feminist International” (GAGO and MALO, 2020), related to the actions of Marea Verde. Aiming to understand the moment of germination of this form of production, which is responsible for expanding the field of art and feminism in contemporaneity, we will start from the collective actions promoted by Madres de Plaza de Mayo and Mujeres por la vida, respectively from Argentina and Chile. It is concluded, through a qualitative analysis methodology based on the feminist critique of culture, that the experiences of the collectives that acted in defense of civil rights in the context of military dictatorships, will be decisive in the construction of a current movement, observed through the example of the collectives Lastesis and Ni Una Menos, which continue to propose productions that encompass elements of the political field and subjectivity.
