Abstract
This biographical essay analyzes the professional trajectory of Abner Vicentini (23/08/1929–9/08/1976), a Brazilian librarian. Abner Vicentini was president of the Library Association of São Paulo (1958-1961), professor of Library Science at the University of Brasilia (1964-1971), advisor of the International Federation for documentation, FAO consultant for the implementation of the National Library of Agriculture and the National System Agricultural Information and Documentation (1975-1976). He also held management positions in several libraries such as Technological Institute of Aeronautics (1952-1953), the Aeronautics Technological Center (1954-1963), the University of Brasilia (1964-1971), Ministry of Mines and Energy (1972-1975). Abner Vicentini was a great promoter of the Universal Decimal Classification and editor of the first Brazilian edition of the Anglo-American Cataloging Rules (AACR-1), published in 1969.
