Abstract

This contribution introduces the theoretical concepts related to the mechanical behavior of solid particulate materials and their most important differences with that of continuous solid materials and of fluids. It describes and analyzes the different proposals of school didactic models for the visualization and teaching of liquefaction and fluidization phenomena that can affect areas composed of soils, loose or poorly consolidated sediments in case of being affected by seismic waves and whose collapse can cause severe damage even in buildings built in accordance with the regulations for the prevention of seismic risk in the area.
