Cachoeira do Abraão: the formation of a “new” peculiar feature on the Acre river.

Abstract

Introduction. Residents of the rural area reported the existence of a waterfall on the Acre River. Objective and Methodology. This paper communicates the atypical situation of a new waterfall in the Acre River channel, in order to identify socio-environmental changes in the location and to study its geotouristic potential. The team of researchers visited the waterfall, where they carried out data collection at the so-called “Abraão waterfall”, in Porto Acre (AC). Results. Due to the fact that the Acre River is a lowland river, the presence of waterfalls would be something unusual. However, during the months of July to September, 2023, the region has experienced an attenuated summer period, without much convective activity. The reduction in water volume left the riverbed drier. Conclusion.The waterfall feature has aroused the interest of visitors and authorities due to its geotouristic potential; making socio-environmental studies necessary in order to analyze the economic potential and the viability of environmental preservation.
