O eurocentrismo nos livros didáticos de língua inglesa

This article in the result of an applied research effort on 'Eurocentrism in Brazilian Textbooks for EFL teaching". Its main subject is the analysis of ideological aspects underlying the texts of materials for EFL (English as a Foreign Language) teaching used in Brazilian schools. Starting from the importance of textbooks in EFL classes, the author presents a critical discourse analysis of one text, with the aim of identitying eurocentric values which may underlie it. His conclusion is that texts like the one which was analyzed can teach more than just the English language: they convey values and ideas which reinforce the ideologies f dominant Western societies. Finally, he suggest the adoption of critical attitudes by language teachers who deal with such materials in order to raise critical awareness in their students.
