Resumo
This cas study intends to launch a debate on the role of self-esteem in the foreig language learning process. It hypothesizes that high self-esteem influences school achievement. The triangulation of the data collected by several instuments evidences trends of high self-esteem in the participant's discourse and of his good performance as a language student. Finally, the paper corroborates previous research which postulates that people with high self-esteem are more likely to present sucessful academic achievements but it also adds that in the case of the target student, it is very likely that the participant's high level of self-esteem and his good learning performance have fed each other.
