Resumen
Este artículo se basa en una investigación sociolingüística y etnográfica, que se realizó con migrantes de Timor-Leste en una pequeña ciudad de Irlanda del Norte (CABRAL; MARTIN-JONES, 2017). A través de esta investigación, trazamos sus trayectorias migratorias (a través de Portugal o Inglaterra) y documentamos las formas de agente que encontraron para lidiar con las condiciones de establecimiento y empleo y, al mismo tiempo, para crear nuevos espacios de solidaridad y facilidad de uso en los mundos de la vida local. Aquí, nos centramos en un mundo particular, el del deporte, y en los nueve clubes de fútbol formados para hombres y jóvenes timorenses en ese contexto irlandés. Describimos y analizamos tres aspectos diferentes de las prácticas de comunicación que se desarrollaron en torno al fútbol: (1.) las prácticas lingüísticas, culturales y semióticas involucradas en la elección de nombres y "marca" (branding) para los clubes, en particular, las prácticas que indexaron diferentes identidades timorenses (de diferentes regiones de Timor-Leste) y que indexaron diferentes mundos culturales y globalizados del fútbol; (2.) los recursos lingüísticos de los "entrenadores" de los clubes (incluidos el tetum, el portugués y el inglés), sus prácticas de organización, sus sistemas de valores y sus fondos de conocimiento; (3.) el sentido de la programación de los torneos de fútbol en torno a fechas importantes en la construcción de la nación de Timor-Leste – una práctica regular evocaba una orientación hacia una identidad nacional compartida.
