Abstract
The purpose of this work is proposing an alternative for the teaching of rational numbers,
with help from new technologies: a set of workshops, directioned for Fifth and Sixth grades’s
students. It will be explained the basic elements of the Music: rhythm, melody and harmony, and
the formation of the western musical scale, through the experience from the Greek mathematician
Pythagoras. Some of the principal elements of the sound waves, like height and frequency, will be
related to rational numbers. Through an audiovisual experience, that integrates the musical and
visual ratiocination and the logical-mathematical ratiocination, a new approach to the fractions
teaching is suggested.
