Abstract

This text looks into Aby Warburg's essay concerning the painting Le déjeuner sur l'herbe, in which he advances beyond his traditional objects of interest, but keeps his reflection on the presence and transformations of the Antique in artworks. The purpose is to analyze what the science of culture crafted by Warburg reveals to us about the Édouard Manet’s painting and, even in a fumbling way, what Le déjeuner has to say about this science.
