Abstract

From a phenomenological perspective and focusing on the relation between the artist and the landscape, this article aims to investigate the correspondence between nature and the artist’s nature, which manifests itself between spirit and matter, inherent to the artist, painting and nature. It is assumed that the artist identifies himself with the landscapes chosen and is crossed, affected and questioned by nature itself, to transform it into painting. Claude Monet was the artist chosen for this study. In order to investigate the transformation that takes place in his process of creation, as he moves in geographical space, I set out to study his life and work and went through the different places in which he made his paintings. Having the palette as the object of analysis, I was able to perceive the relationship between the choice of the colors of his painting and the colors that manifest themselves in the landscapes: color that unfolds in light color and matter color.
