Abstract

This article introduces two case studies related to the study of the 19th century Chilean and Latin American art history, and another one connected to a fragmented codex from the Italian Renaissance, found at the National Museum of Fine Arts in Santiago, Chile. Each of these three case studies, based on particular objects – an ensemble of studio draws, two art dictionaries, and one painting – converge in a research that seeks to show the diverse and rich relationship between two pivotal notions of art history: life and oeuvre, considering its iconographic, methodological, and historiographical matters. The aim of this work is to note how an individual story produces senses to a common history.
