Strategies for the presentation of an artistic action in public space

Abstract

This article presents and discusses the action in the public/urban space, Mini oasis, from the perspective of the expository condition, in three different spatial contexts. In the first, the action itself is the producer of the exhibition space and reveals the social, historical and emotional place in the city from which it emerges; the second context – formal exhibition space – determines the Mini oasis approach through its process documents and action records. The transit and the extension of the work are still in a third opportunity with the resubmission of the work through staged photography, presented in an institutional space. The objective is to observe how the transference of meanings occurs in each of these passages, and the inflections that each context determines in the meanings of the work. The theoretical references for discussion about urban space, society and nature – that give a theme to the work – are in Milton Santos (2008, 2009) and Armando Silva (2014). The reflections on the methods of offering the work are articulated to the studies on the new paradigms of site-specificity in Miwon Kwon (2008).
