Resumen
Este texto busca hacer un balance de las bienales existentes en el sudeste asiático. Adoptando una perspectiva nacional, describe la génesis, continuación (o no) y carácter programático de las exposiciones bienales en la región. El texto propone que la idea de exhibición recurrente se remonta a los años 70 cuando la ASEAN comenzó a promover eventos en la región, en un intento de crear singularidad a través de la cultura. A medida que este proyecto perdió vitalidad, fue reemplazado por bienales en la región del Sudeste de Asia y en la región de Asia-Pacífico. Según las razones de su génesis, las bienales que surgieron en el sudeste asiático siguen el modelo global y otras siguen el modelo bienal de resistencia, mostrando variedad regional e independencia del mundo global.
