Abstract

Abstract The purpose of the present work is to show some principles from the French school Discourse Analysis (DA), such as discourse proper, statement and thematic trajectory coming from Pêcheux, Foucault, Guillaumou & Maldidier, by means of their application in the analysis of a collection consisting of 100 issues of the Sesinho comic books (of which only 57 were actually studied) in the period from 2001 through 2008. The use of the French DA techniques have produced the following results: (a) The determination of the theme by performing a thorough reading of the texts; (b) the verification that the texts offer the readers multiple and detailed relationships regarding the same theme by identifying the discourse statements. We conclude that the DA techniques are indeed a very useful methodology in Information Science, particularly in the analysis of Comics.
