Editorial

Abstract

It is with great pleasure that we present to you, the issue number 1 of the Digital Journal of Library & Information Science, edited by the UNICAMP's Library System (SBU). In this issue we bring together professionals from our area, who contributed with articles that point to current facts. In the article by Solange Puntel Mostafa (UNIVALI), entitled: "EAD yes, but with which library?", it is reported what has been happening in the field of Distance Education regarding the participation of the information professional. In the second article presented by Clarinda Rodrigues Lucas (UNICAMP), entitled: "Discurso acadêmico disponível em Ciências Humanas: o funcionamento discursivo da indexação em uma base de dados bibliográfica computadorizada", the author contributes with a research published in 1997, which, due to its relevance, is still current. Professor Raimundo Nonato Macedo dos Santos (PUC-CAMPINAS), with his article "Produção científica: por que medir? o que medir?", questions the measurement of scientific production, and if this is being an important factor in research institutions. The authors Rose Mary Juliano Longo (SENAC-SP) and Waldomiro Vergueiro (USP) in "Quality management in public sector information services: characteristics and difficulties for its implementation", discuss the characteristics and difficulties for implementing quality management in information services in the public sector. The last article "The identification of concepts in the process of subject analysis for indexing", presented by Professor Mariângela Spotti Lopes Fujita (UNESP), brings a study about the identification of concepts in the improvement of the process of subject analysis, regarding indexing.
