Tectônica de placas, 50 Anos
Entrada monumental da Gruta do Lago Azul, ricamente ornamentada por estalactites e estalagmites, situada no município de Bonito, a E da Serra da Bodoquena e a sudoeste do município de Miranda. Resumo

Nos anos 1970, a formulação da Teoria da Tectônica de Placas revolucionou as Ciências da Terra. Pela primeira vez, os geólogos conseguiam explicar o fenômeno orogênico, com base na composição e estrutura sísmico-petrológica do planeta e do sua geodinâmica. A expansão daquelas concepções iniciais influenciou todos os campos das Geociências, tornando-se referência de livros-textos e sepultando a “Teoria Geossinclinal” e as ideias “fixistas”, em geral. Os detalhes da interação de placas ao longo do Tempo Geológico, a anatomia de diferentes cinturões orogênicos, bem como os processos de fusão e fissão de continentes revelaram a evolução irreversível da Terra. Após 50 anos, Plate Tectonics é uma teoria cientificamente rejuvenescida e inovadora, sem perder os vínculos essenciais. Este artigo apresenta os mais importantes fatos científicos e adendos, com base em referências bibliográficas e na experiência do autor, como professor e geólogo de campo.
