Abstract
This research, involving students from 8th grade of elementary school basic education at a
state school in the town of Sertão, north of Rio Grande do Sul, aimed to analyze the potential of the
approach of mathematical investigation in the development of contents of the information processing
block. The analysis tools were records of math classes were developed by one of the researchers in her
role as a teacher. The theoretical basis for the research consists of authors such as Ponte, Vigotski,
Duval, among others, who highlight important aspects for consideration in the classroom. The
development of mathematical research activities allowed instructions in the classroom interactions, which potentialised the appropriation of the concepts of meaning processing, which compose the
content of information dealing of the afore-mentioned school grade.
