Abstract
At the XVII century, the geography was part of the mathematics. The
Varenio’s book General Geography (sec XVII) was written to teaching geography
and was used by both, Newton at Cambridge (sec XVII) and militaries at Saint
Cyr's Military School (sec XIX) in France. The General Geography points out the
historical relationships between geography and mathematics, it indicates
applications of this last one in several branches, as cartography and navigation.
It makes an extensive using of the history of the mathematics. This paper
describes that book and analyzes its use of the history of the mathematics.
