About the Journal

Focus and Scope

ETD — Educação Temática Digital is an academic electronic journal from UNICAMP’s School of Education, created in 1999, edited trimonthly, following a defined editorial policy.

Mission:

ETD — Educação Temática Digital is a multidisciplinary electronic journal dedicated to publishing articles made by the national and international scientific communities investigating matters pertaining to the educational field and to related areas, aiming to contribute to the formation of researchers in Education through the dissemination of studies and research made by educators associated to national and foreign institutions. Even though the journal has the word DIGITAL in its name, it does not publish, in its sections, articles exclusively related to the area of educational technology. The journal aims to have a multidisciplinary scope encompassing all the areas that relate to education. Therefore, it is Thematic, and it exists exclusively in the Digital medium, which could be translated to Electronic or On-line, i.e., it is exclusively digital and open access.

ETD — Educação Temática Digital is, since 2004, part of OJS/SEER (Open Journal Systems / Sistema Eletrônico de Editoração de Revistas), the software recommended by the Instituto Brasileiro de Informação em Ciência e Tecnologia (IBICT). It is the second Brazilian journal to ever use the software.

The journal publishes papers from selected, peer-reviewed authors. These papers can be articles, experience reports/case study, communications, research, essays, and essays by authors who were especially invited by the Editorial Board.

Target audience:

This journal is directed to researchers, professors, librarians, professionals, and students with an interest in the field of education and related areas.

Objective:

ETD — Educação Temática Digital aims to disseminate knowledge and innovative research to the educational field, becoming a space for the promotion of both the research and the production of different areas of knowledge.

Languages for publication:

Paper can be published in Portuguese, Spanish or English.

Publication Ethics:

The authors are exclusively responsible for the contents of the manuscripts as well as for the spelling check. Every manuscript sent in must receive two favorable reviews by either the Editorial Board, ad hoc consultants, or referees. Authors sign a copyright transfer agreement for the publishing of the approved manuscripts.

It is strongly recommended that manuscripts originated from research with human beings indicate when such research was approved by the Ethics Board. If the research did not go through the Ethics Board, the inclusion of a footnote in the manuscript is required to inform readers of the ethical procedures used by the authors/researchers.

Refer to the following sources:

  • São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP)’s Code of Good Scientific Practice - http://www.fapesp.br/boaspraticas/
  • And CNPq’s document Ética e integridade na prática científica.
  • Authors must also visit COPE’s website http://publicationethics.org, which holds information for authors and editors in relation to research ethics.

Peer Review Process

Before submission, authors must follow these procedures:

- manuscripts containing the acquisition or the analysis and interpretation of data published in another source must reference this source explicitly (avoiding misunderstandings in relation to the authorship of the data);

- when writing a manuscript containing a critical review of another author’s intellectual content, this author should be properly cited;

Following the review in relation to the manuscripts’ form, the textual content will be reviewed for plagiarism, duplicate submission, previously-published manuscripts, and possible research frauds. With the result of this review, it is up to the editor to decide whether the manuscript is sent for the peer review.

The Editorial Board will forward the manuscripts to the autonomous evaluation of at least two reviewers (“double blind” method), whose areas of expertise and academic formation are related to the manuscript’s theme. In case of a disagreement between the reviewers, the manuscript will be forwarded to a third reviewer. At the end of the process, the authors will receive notice of the reviewers’ evaluation, with the identity of the reviewers concealed.

Criteria for the organization of dossiers

The dossier must have an interinstitutional nature and deal with relevant themes to the Education area, in order to broaden the academic discussion, foster research exchanges and/or enhance the formative experiences being investigated and/or education itself.

The evaluation of the dossier proposal is in two steps, both done through ETD’s online system.

First, a summary of the dossier must be included in the platform, with the names and the institutional identification of the proponents (three, at most, two of which with a doctoral degree), as well as the titles and abstracts of the manuscripts, along with the authors’ names and institutional associations.

In this first step, the full manuscripts must not be presented.

The dossier proposal must necessarily include:

1. A brief summary of the Dossier.

2.The relevance of the proposed theme to the educational field.

3.The thematic axis of the Dossier: manuscripts must have, as its central axis, a well-defined theme set by the proponents of the Dossier

4. Title and abstract of each manuscript, and authors’ full names and institutional associations: in a single Dossier, the manuscripts’ authors must be associated to different institutions (not from repeated institutions). The Dossier must have between five (minimum) and ten (maximum) manuscripts.

5. Proponents responsible for the Dossier: name, institution, and email. The Dossier can be proposed by at most three people, at least two of which with a doctoral degree. It is up to the proponents to also send the Dossier proposal to the following e-mail: etd@unicamp.br.

After the first phase, if the Dossier proposal is approved, the full manuscripts composing the Dossier must be uploaded to the journal’s online platform and they will be peer reviewed following the journal’s standard procedures, namely the double-blind method, at least.

Conditions for the submission of Dossier manuscripts:

1. Manuscripts must follow the publishing and standardization procedures (references and citations);

2. The submission of manuscripts which compose the Dossier must be registered directly in the system, following the orientation in “Online Submission”. E-mail submissions will not be accepted. Furthermore, each author must fill in the terms of the “Originality Declaration” found in the link: “Originality Declaration”.

 The aforementioned declaration must be sent by conventional mail to the address mentioned in the declaration itself, or sent in digital format, with the necessary signatures, to the email: etd@unicamp.br.

For the identification of the manuscript in the submissions system, in the metadata title field, place the word Dossier followed by an underline, the Proponent’s first name, another underline, and the title of each manuscript.
