Abstract

The research is a bibliographical approach in a reconstructive hermeneutic perspective. Thematically it is concerned with John Dewey's educational proposal and his pedagogical principle of democracy as a way of life. The reconstruction, based on the research of Jürgen Oelkers, pursues the reasons why the conception of a democratic pedagogy emerges in the American context of the new world. What can be seen when observing the historical processes and the constitution of American society, is that the different groups and social organizations, sought communitarian models of solidarity and social cooperation, configuring a propitious environment for the emergence of a public sphere favorable to the emergence of democratic educational proposals.
