Cícero Dias in Lisbon, "a poetic and imagined vision of reality": "Uma poética e imaginada visão da realidade"

Abstract

With the proximity of the II World War, among the Brazilian artists residing in Europe, Cícero Dias is the only one who does not return to Brazil and decides to stay in Paris. In 1942, he becomes a prisoner of the Germans and therefore he is taken to Baden-Baden. Later he is sent to Vichy, and months later he goes to Lisbon where he will remain for some years. In Lisbon, his work will cross another frontier, but where does all this lead? We are interested in analyzing the transformations that took place in the imaginary field of Cícero Dias taking as a guiding thread the exhibitions he took part, the individual exhibitions he organized and the critical reception of his work during the years he lived in Portugal, between 1942 and 1945.
