Resumen
El artículo pretende acercarse a la 1ª Bienal de La Habana y la 2ª Bienal de Johannesburgo para analizar la importancia de reflexionar sobre las metodologías de investigación utilizadas para el estudio de las bienales. Ambas exposiciones revelan cómo las intersecciones entre arte, política y sociedad actúan en una exposición y ofrecen caminos con múltiples puntos de reflexión sobre la importancia de una investigación interdisciplinar en la historia del arte. Para escapar de las lecturas reduccionistas sobre la historia de las exposiciones, una opción metodológica es adoptar una perspectiva social, que opone el análisis de estos hechos a la historia del arte local y al contexto político en el que se insertan.
