Concepciones alternativas de Tectónica de Placas

Resumen

Este artículo presenta una evaluación de la comprensión de los estudiantes de Plate Tectonics en un curso técnico de Minería. Mediante un cuestionario, se aplicaron preguntas sobre terminología, movimiento relativo de placas, fusión de rocas y terremotos. El objetivo del enfoque era permitir a los participantes expresar malentendidos, entendimientos parciales y otras concepciones alternativas, con el fin de ayudar a un mayor aprendizaje. Se observó que los estudiantes presentan algún conocimiento descriptivo de las placas tectónicas, pero el conocimiento explicativo conceptual, que relaciona la dinámica de los movimientos de las placas con la evidencia explicada por la teoría, es inconsistente. Era necesario utilizar evidencia y conexiones dinámicas entre los movimientos de las placas y los procesos observables para apoyar el aprendizaje de la teoría. Aún así, se destacó la importancia de realizar una clase centrada en refutar las concepciones alternativas de los estudiantes sobre la teoría de la Tectónica de Placas.
