Abstract
This study aims at delineating an individual stylistic profile of four translators, and their translations, of Heart of Darkness into Spanish language, by describing patterns of recurring shifts in translation and lexical item patterns formed by the search nodes alg* and parec*. These items are used to construct the uncertainty meaning in the translations. This study analyzes the optional formal shifts, in a micro level textual structure, based on the theoretical-methodological perspective proposed by Pekkanen (2010). This study also considers the Translational Stylistics methodology (MALMKJAER, 2003, 2004) and the concept of style is considered as textual and personal attribute (SALDANHA, 2011). The findings showed that the translators presented different lexical choices among them, and related to the source text, to the translation of some*/any* and seem*. The translators presented preference patterns related to the use of certain shifts as strategies.
